Description

Most Christians in our day determine whom they will marry through a process usually referred to as “dating”. They begin a trial relationship with another person in order to find out if they want to have a marriage relationship with them. Is this the pattern that God gives us in His word? The short answer is “no”. Although many people do begin a happy, godly marriage through this dating process, there are many ways in which the dating pattern violates Scripture. Could it be that part of the reason we see such a high divorce rate amongst Christians is because most follow a pattern for choosing a spouse that runs contrary to God’s way of doing things? If dating is not God’s way of doing things, what is?

This booklet looks at:

  • Problems associated with dating
  • Examples in the Bible of two people finding and choosing their spouse
  • Principles contained in those examples
  • Suggestions for applying these principles today
  • Answering objections to the Biblical pattern

While the Bible doesn’t give us a step-by-step formula for choosing a spouse, it does give us many principles for how we go about determining whom we will marry. Whether you are single and hope to be married, or if you have children who are not yet married, it is important to know what God’s word says about this important issue.
